BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A free gym in Remington is giving Baltimore City kids and teens a place to go after school and on weekends where the idea is to focus on being physically and mentally fit.
WJZ's Jessica Kartalija explains.
Volunteers are the ones making all of it happen, and they truly are on a mission.
"Everybody should have access to fitness," said founder Wendy Wolock. "Everybody, no matter where they come from, or who they are."
"I wouldn't be anywhere else," said Geoffrey Blake, one of the volunteer trainers.
Students like Janiah Tillery, who said her "arms and legs feel stronger," enjoy the atmosphere of the place, too.
"I had trouble finding a gym where I could work out and get in shape," she said. "So this was perfect for me because I felt comfortable here."
And that means another one of Wolock's goals is accomplished.
"They will feel safe here, they will feel welcome and whatever they want to bring to the space."
And if she could instill one things in the kids?
"A belief in themselves, and knowing that we believe in them as well," she said. "It's very valuable."
