Frederick Co. Principal Struck By Car While Biking

BUCKEYSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Officials say a Frederick County middle school principal has been hospitalized after being struck by a car while biking near Buckeystown.

Cindy Rivers, a spokeswoman at R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, says Frank Vetter was in serious condition Monday evening. County schools spokeswoman Marita Loose tells The Frederick News-Post that Vetter's injuries are not life-threatening.

Maryland State Police say Vetter failed to stop at a stop sign at Lilypons Road and Route 85, and was struck by an SUV on Sunday morning. Police say two occupants in the SUV were not injured.

Loose says Vetter was the founding principal of Urbana Middle School in 2006. She says Vetter later transferred to Middletown Middle School, where he is in his second year as principal.
