Former Baltimore DJ Gets Jail For Driving Drunk

BEL AIR, Md. (AP) -- A former Baltimore radio personality is going to jail for driving drunk in a crash that sent five people to the hospital.

The Baltimore Sun reports that Stephen Smith of Bel Air was sentenced Monday to six months in jail after pleading guilty. The judge reduced the original one-year sentence by six months after learning that Smith has been in alcohol treatment.

Smith was known as "Stash" on WIYY-FM, or 98 Rock. He was fired as a result of the charges after more than 20 years in radio.

The crash occurred in July on Route 24 near Interstate 95.

District Judge Susan Hazlett noted that Smith has 32 prior convictions for traffic offenses.

Smith apologized to the crash victims. He told them that alcohol has taken over his life.
