Football Weather in April

I've been a busy reporter today:  radio show 9am-12pm, Ravens pre-draft luncheon and press conference at 1pm, then to Oriole park for WJZ-TV live reports for the 5pm and 6pm news.  My day will wrap up with a sports report in the 11pm news tonight.  For now- I'm sitting in the chilly open-air press box at Camden Yards while the grounds crew tends to the damp dirt and grass on the baseball diamond, and fans clad in their bright orange Matt Wieters give-away t-shirts work their way to their seats.

Check out this juxtaposition:  on the night the O's give away t-shirts, the Yankees hand out World Series rings.  Hey, it's not meant to be a low blow- just an additional dose of cold reality on a chilly night in a ballpark that welcomed a record-low crowd of about 9,000 fans last night.  It's easy to beat up on the organization for its struggles and slow start to the 2010 season.  I'm not one to pile on, but I don't hesitate to point out truths that indicate the distance the O's need to cover to reach the heights of what the Yankees enjoy in the Bronx.  Losing 6 of the first 7 games to a new season doesn't exactly up the optimism in Birdland, but there's a lot of baseball to be played.

On the football end of things (since it feels like football weather out here tonight!), I would describe the Ravens press event as mostly uneventful (which is no surprise actually).  The only real news to come out was the termination of Samari Rolle's contract (which was a forgone reality) and Ozzie Newsome saying that NO team has contacted the Ravens to inquire about a trade for ANY of its players.   I'll take Ozzie at his word, but isn't that almost insulting that no other team has expressed interest in any of  the Ravens players?

I wonder how many trade inquiries the O's might get this year.  I know, it's early.
