Fire Inspector Helps Rescue 2 Overcome By Fumes

WALDORF, Md. (AP) -- The State Fire Marshal's Office says an inspector and another man helped rescue two people who were overcome by fumes in a building the inspector was checking.

Fire safety inspector Jarrell Reeder was doing a routine inspection of Elite Metal Services in Waldorf Friday afternoon and was with Jack Oliveiar, the son of the building manager. They smelled exhaust fumes when they entered the building and saw two employees unconscious on the floor.

The two men saw the fumes were coming from a running propane-fueled forklift. They called 911, shut off the forklift and removed the two employees from the building.

The two employees were taken to Mount Vernon Hospital, treated in a hyperbaric chamber and released.
