Favorite Baltimore Sports Moment
Today on Scott's show the topic was brought up about your favorite Baltimore sports moment. Now there are the obvious ones like the 2000 Ravens Super Bowl, the 2001 Terps National Championship, Cal Ripken's Streak, but im going in a different direction. I'll go back to the 1996 American League Division Series between the Orioles and Indians. In the best of 5 series the Orioles led 2-1 going into Game 4. But heading into the ninth inning the Orioles trailed 3-2 and Jose Mesa the Indians closer was on the mound and with 2 outs Alomar came up and drove in the tying run to force extra innings. Then in the 12th the same matchup Alomar took Mesa deep and the Orioles won their first playoff series since the 1983 World Series. What made this moment even more special was the fact that Alomar was getting a ton of heat because of a spitting incident just a few weeks earlier. I remember when the Orioles came home and all the excitement for this team the postseason didnt the end the way we all wanted it to but finally after a long wait the O's were relevant again. Robbie Alomar was one of my favorite players growing up regardless of what team he was on. I played second base in little league because of Alomar and to see him on my hometown team sending the Orioles into the next round of the playoffs was just awesome.
