Far Western Md. Braces For Big Snowstorm
OAKLAND, Md. (AP) -- Officials in far western Maryland are urging citizens to prepare for the first big snowstorm since Superstorm Sandy.
Garrett County's public safety agency said Thursday that the approaching storm could cause significant power outages from falling trees and branches that were weakened by nearly 3 feet of snow in October.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for parts of Garrett County. The agency says the area could get 10 to 16 inches of snow between Friday morning and Saturday night.
The weather service is also predicting winds of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph.
Superstorm Sandy knocked out power to 80 percent of the county's homes and businesses. Some were without electricity for more than a week.
