Fallen Firefighter Honored In Annapolis Memorial Service

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — A Prince George's County firefighter killed while responding to a call for help at a home has been honored along with hundreds of other emergency rescue workers in a memorial service in Annapolis.

Firefighter John Ulmschneider was memorialized at the Maryland Fire-Rescue Services Memorial on Sunday. His name was added to a wall that includes the names of more than 400 firefighters and emergency medical service providers who died in the line of duty.

Ulmschneider was shot to death when firefighters forced their way into a Temple Hills home during a welfare check. Another firefighter, Kevin Swain, was injured.

The Maryland memorial features the bronze figures of a firefighter and EMT climbing stairs, which symbolizes their deaths in the line of duty.

Ulmschneider was a 13-year veteran of the department.
