Deja Vu and Bull Durham

Ok, lets try this again -- I blogged this morning and just LOST IT ALL. Ahhhh. That's the worst. I was saying...

I have not missed an inning of Orioles baseball since I started working at The Fan and MASN. And after last night's loss to the Mariners, I realized my days/nights/games are all starting to blend together. I am seeing THE SAME things every night. It's like Deja Vu.

From what I've seen, vet Ty Wigginton and rookie Brian Matusz have done their part so fare this season. And I KNOW there's a lot more talent on that team -- But why isn't it showing? Oakand and Seattle are good teams but they're beatable. The Rays are a bunch of beasts and the Blue Jays have  some impressive arms on their staff (The O's were swept by both). But to lose 14 of the last 16 games and have a record of 2-14... something, to me, just isn't adding up.

Where is the offense? You can't win a ballgame if you don't score any runs. And Kevin Millwood can't be blamed for last night's loss... he did exactly what he was supposed to do. He pitched well enough and long enough to keep the Orioles in the game and he got no run support.  Sure King Felix Hernandez was pitching -- who also went the distance -- but the O's were able to record nine hits. Unfortunately, they left 15 men on base and scored just one run which in turn handed Millwood the third loss of his Orioles career in as many outings.

Let me quote my favorite movie, Bull Durham: "A good friend of mine used to say, 'This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains.' Think about that for a while."

Luke Scott said he's praying things get better -- I think the entire city of Baltimore is as well. If things were only as simple as the movies, huh?
