Dear Steroids, Thanks for ruining baseball

Yesterday Alex Rodriguez became only the 7th man in history to hit 600 home runs in a career. And you could probably count on one hand the amount of people who truly cared that it happened. There is one thing to blame and that's...
steroids, after Bonds retired A-Rod was the one every one wanted to see break his record. Now he is just another one added to the long list of names that will forever be tainted. More than any other sport baseball is all about the numbers, Cal Ripken's 2,632, Pete Rose 4,256, Joe DiMaggio 56, numbers people will remember forever. What the steroid era has done is cloud the home run numbers, I had to look at what Bonds final total actually was, and I would argue more people know Aaron's number than Bonds. The most infuriating part about the steroid era is many of the players didn't need the crap. Barry Bonds was probably a hall of famer before the 73 home run season, and even though he has never tested positive just the amount of suspicion will keep him out of Cooperstown. Rafael Palmeiro, over 3,000 hits and 500 home runs, but his positive test and rant in front of congress will likely keep him out of the hall. A-Rod joins the list, its possible by the time his career is done he could be the all time home run king but once he admitted to using he sealed his fate. There was a time when 300 and 400 home runs was a big deal, but the steroid era has believe it or not made 600 pretty irrelevant. For all baseball fans there is one last shining light, Albert Pujols. Pujols has 393 home runs in his career and being just 30 years old if he stays healthy, no reason he can't be in the top 10 once his career is over. To me steroids is the biggest black eye to the sport and unfortunately the sport may never recover. No doubt the game is cleaner now but because we all turned the blind eye the records we hold the most dear to us in baseball will never be looked at the same.
