Coronavirus Latest: First Maryland Inmate Dies Of COVID-19
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- The first inmate in a Maryland correctional facility has died of the coronavirus, officials say.
The inmate was in his 60s and had serious underlying medical conditions. He had been hospitalized for several weeks.
The department is not identifying the man who died due to privacy laws.
There are a total of 93 confirmed cases of the coronavirus within its system; 18 inmates, 47 correctional officers, three Division of Parole and probation employees, 22 contractual staff, one clinical health employee and two administrative employees.
Jessup Correctional Institution has the most cases, with 33 total. 10 are inmates, 13 are officers and 10 are contract employees.
WJZ has obtained pictures of tents being set up at a correctional facility in Jessup.

Cases in Maryland have jumped to nearly 9,000 and 262 people have died from the virus.
Of the 1,975 patients hospitals, 603 have been released from isolation. There were also nearly 43,000 people who tested negative for coronavirus.
