Code Blue In Effect For Thursday, Friday

BALTIMORE, Md. (WJZ)—Baltimore City officials have declared a Code Blue for Thursday, February 5 and Friday, February 6, due to expected low temperatures and wind chills.

With wind chills in the single digits expected for Thursday and Friday, it is imperative that individuals take appropriate steps to stay safe," Dr. Wen said.   "We are especially concerned about our vulnerable residents, and those with history of chronic disease need to be especially vigilant.  People should avoid drinking alcohol on these very cold days because it blunts their natural response to hypothermia, preventing one's mind from recognizing they are too cold and one's body from naturally shivering to keep warm."

Officials say they declare a Code Blue when temperatures, including wind chill, are expected to be 13 degrees or below.

This is the fifth Code Blue for Baltimore this winter.
