Carroll County Community Mourns Loss Of Baker In Car Crash
CARROLL COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) -- A fiery crash took the life of a Carroll County woman known for putting smiles on the faces of many people with her food.
Marcus Washington reports local baker Jean Vogle is remmebered Saturday.
It's the aftermath of a fiery crash that took the life of a local Westminster baker. Jean Vogle was the only person in the car involved when the accident happened around 4 a.m. Friday.
"It was shock. It really was. Jeannie was a hard worker; she would leave to come to the bakery at 4 every morning. They were open five days a week," said friend Dan West.
State traffic and police say just after 4 a.m., a tractor trailer crashed into the car Vogle was driving at the Chapel Road intersection, causing both vehicles to catch fire.
Vogle was a baker and owwner of Jeannie Bird Baking Company on Main Street in Westminster. The store has remained closed since her death.
Outside, flowers line the storefront.
"I met a lot of people here tonight [who] didn't know Jeannie but they are here because they feel the loss of the community. That's why I am here. I never met her but she was a big part of the Westminster community," said Lisa Martin.
Investigators spent hours trying to piece together what caused the crash, shutting down the road for 18 hours.
The truck's driver, a woman from Florida, refused medical attention.
"She was a friend. She had an enormous heart and was generous to the community and it's going to be a real loss not having her around," West said.
Investigators say the prelimary investigation does not show alcohol as a factor and the tractor trailer passed inspection and had no defects that could have caused the crash.
Vogle is survived by her husband and three children.
