Brett To Retire?

Reports coming out of Minnesota suggest Brett Favre, the leader in every statistical category including Wins Touchdowns and even Interceptions, has chose to retire instead of return for his 20th season of football. My initial reaction was sadness as I am a Favre supporter but I then turned to disbelief for obvious reasons.

Later reports coming out of Mississippi reveal Brett's decision is far from being made. Brett Favre used to hold the title of beloved quarterback around the league with few enemies and fewer critics, but a year ago as the coverage was massive for his second retirement, feelings for Brett began to change with many tired of this yearly announcement and the press associated with it. I, for one, love the constant indecisiveness in Brett's personality and feel it further confirms what Brett Favre represents. Brett is the epitome of the every day guy, and his disregard for anybody's opinion on his decisions and the time in which he takes to make them, makes me respect him even more. As if showing up for work everyday for 18 years, in a line of work that includes men sizing you up on every play, wasn't enough to earn you this sort of slow moving decision making process. To go even further, since his initial retirement 2 years ago, he's proved all the critics wrong not once but twice. Many felt his career was over as he threw that interception in the NFC championship at Lambeau Field against the future Champion New York Giants. He showed the league he was still worthy of being in it, as he led his new team the New York Jets to an 8-3 record before his arm wasn't healthy enough to finish out the year. His critics again came to the table with new ammunition, claiming his body had simply begun to show its signs of aging. He only returned once again to the NFC Championship the very next year, only to have it end in a similar way as his last visit, with an interception. I was interested to see how Brett responded this year, but if these reports are true, we will not get the chance to. It, of course matters which report you read, as now news out of Mississippi say that's not the case. The will he or won't he retire storyline as it relates to Brett Favre is far from over.
