Break-Ins Spike At Metro Parking Facilities

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Metro transit police say they there has been a spike in vehicle break-ins at the agency's parking facilities along the red, blue and orange lines.

Metro says there were 19 break-ins one day last week at its parking facilities, including 12 at the Largo Town Center garage.

Officials say there were also four at Addison Road, and one each at Vienna, White Flint and Fort Totten.

According to The Washington Post, Metro Transit Police Deputy Chief Ronald Pavlik says the same people may be committing the crimes.

Pavlik says the agency plans to deploy plainclothes officers and increase officer visibility in response to the break-ins.
