Bobby Flay's Burger Palace Opens For Business In College Park

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (WJZ)—New York, Vegas, Los Angeles and ... College Park? Chef, restaurateur, author and TV personality Bobby Flay is making his mark in Maryland.

Jessica Kartalija has details on the opening off his newest burger joint.

Iron Chef Bobby Flay caters to the college crowd.

"Look at these kids," Flay said. "They love this concept, you know?"

His latest restaurant, Bobby's Burger Palace, is now officially open for business just off campus at the University of Maryland.

"I am a burger guy," Flay said. "I've always been a burger guy. I always crave a cheeseburger and so I always thought it would be cool to have my own burger place one day, and that's how Bobby's Burger Palace was born."

Flay has 10 signature burgers with toppings from all around the country--like the Philadelphia burger, Santa Fe and Dallas burger. No Baltimore burger quite yet.

"When I look at a map of America, most people see states and towns and cities, and I see ingredients," Flay said. "When I think of Maryland, I think of beautiful blue crab and soft shell crabs."

And students are eating it up like only college kids can.

"This burger was phenomenal," one student said. "I really enjoyed the pleasure of being 10 feet away from Bobby Flay."

Another customer said his burger was so good, he had to get a second one.

"Yeah, it was amazing," he said, "It was the best burger I've ever had."

And don't forget the milkshake.

"It's ground pistachios," Flay said. "It's very natural. It's like two ingredients, and it tastes like pistachios, right? It's awesome."

"The shake is unbelievable,"  agreed one customer, who ordered the black and white shake.

The Iron Chef took time to sign autographs and take pictures with some of his biggest fans.

"College kids now, these days, are so sophisticated when it comes to food," Flay said. "They really demand better cuisine at every level."

This is the seventh of Bobby's Burger Palaces, but the one in College Park is the largest.
