Board OKs Maryland Universities' Tuition Rate Hike

ADELPHI, Md. (AP) -- The board of regents for the University System of Maryland has approved a tuition hike at Maryland's public colleges.

System spokesman Mike Lurie says in an email that the board voted Friday to increase tuition by 2 percent for in-state students and 3 percent for out-of-state students. It is the smallest annual increase in tuition since a freeze was lifted in 2010.

Gov. Larry Hogan included the increases in his annual budget, but the board of regents, which includes 12 of the state's public universities, must still approve the proposal.

Annual in-state tuition at the University of Maryland, College Park would increase $185 to $10,181.
