BLOG: Winter Weather Ahead

A dose of winter is on the way...

After another marvelous and warm February day (where we topped out at 55 degrees incidentally), some snow is on the way. We will start out the day dry with clouds taking over before the rain and snow moves in. It could start as early as 10 or 11 a.m. and continue into the evening. Like this past weekend's storm, it does not look to be a huge deal, but could produce a small accumulation in parts of the state.

The ground has been so warm lately, and we will top out around 40 degrees before the rain/snow mix arrives, so the snow will have a hard time accumulating on most of the roadways. However, if it does come down hard enough, there is the chance for a slippery and messy evening commute - especially after the sun sets. Accumulation amounts will vary.

Here is a breakdown

-Northern Cecil, Harford, and Baltimore Counties west could get 1-3" with most on trees and grassy areas.
-Baltimore and immediate surrounding areas could get a slushy coating to 1"
-Southern Maryland (both on the Eastern Shore and mainland) will see rain mixed with some snow.

This storm will wrap up and temperatures will drop below freezing tomorrow night, which could lead to icy spots on the roads and sidewalks by Thursday morning. However, with sunshine returning and temperatures going right back to the upper 40s, anything that does accumulate will have a hard time sticking around. On Friday, we are looking for a high near 50 degrees.

The stretch of incredibly mild days (overall) will come to a crashing halt this weekend. A shot of Arctic air is coming our way Saturday and Sunday. Highs will drop into the 30s both afternoons. There is even the possibility of a storm spinning up. We will monitor this and keep you posted.

Have a good one everybody!
