BLOG: White Christmas?

Chance for a White Christmas?

That is the talk right now..but let's take you through the week before we get to the weekend.

We all know that December has been a cold month, but the numbers are impressive. The average high for December does drop off, but the month starts out at 51 degrees and only drops to 42 degrees by the end of it. Of the 20 days so far, we have spent 18 of those below average - with 10 days topping out in the 30s and 2 only making it to the 20s. There is still over a week to go this month, but the cold weather is going to continue through the end of it.

The storm that passed us offshore yesterday has turned our winds back around to the northwest, reinforcing the cold air. Highs today will only make it to the mid 30s and then drop to near 20 tonight. Then, a weakening storm will come through tomorrow into Wednesday, and will lock the cold air in again behind it for the rest of the week.

The storm Tuesday into Wednesday is a clipper that will peak out in intensity over the Upper Midwest tonight. It will fizzle out as it races eastward tomorrow into early Wednesday. Expect more clouds and just some flurries as it moves through. We will get a break on Thursday before all eyes turn to the possible weekend storm...the one that could bring us a White Christmas???

The computer models are picking up on the California storm making its way across the middle of the country before heading to the East Coast this weekend. That's where the similarities end. All of the models have a different life for this storm - different strength, timing, and track. And the models have been picking up on a lot more storms than have actually been happening in this weather pattern. There is just so much energy out there right now, but we don't get a storm unless that energy organizes itself into something bigger.

So there is the POTENTIAL for snow on Christmas, but a lot of things could work against it for us before it hits the East Coast. What we do know is that it will be cold, and we need to be watching this one closely. Stay tuned...
