BLOG: Warmer Days Ahead

Temperatures across the Greater Baltimore Area early this morning mostly in the upper-20s and the lower-30s, and there also wasn't been very much wind overnight... Some warm advection aloft has brought plenty of clouds to areas north of the Mason-Dixon Line, but these should stay mostly to the north of your area. Daytime temperatures mostly in the upper-30s today and then the lower or middle-40s tomorrow. So, we must be mindful of the fact that with a ridge of high pressure building into the Eastern Region, our snow cover really won't hold most temperatures
back.

But, if we do see some clouds develop around here tomorrow morning, and a strong temperature inversion develops with very light winds --> then temperatures should be no higher than the upper-30s in many places. The axis of the ridge of high pressure will be sliding to the east on New Year's Eve and during the upcoming weekend, which will allow for a southerly flow of air to develop on the back side of this high pressure system... Therefore, the temperature should reach the upper-40s on Friday, and will climb even higher on Saturday and Sunday (into the lower-50s).

There's also still a chance for some rain late on Saturday night or on Sunday, but preliminary indications are that there will only be between 0.10" and 0.20" of rain. That, combined with snowmelt, won't be enough to cause flooding. On Sunday it is possible that the rain ends by midday and it starts to clear, but European and Canadian are slower than the GFS so would rather not mess with the timing right now.
