BLOG: Warm Christmas

The little short wave trough moving through this morning will bring clouds for the next few hours, but any sprinkle or flurry will be moving away in the next 1-2 hours. General area of high pressure centered to the north will result in the return of sunshine later this morning and although on the chilly side, with temperatures only reaching the low 40s, a pretty tranquil and sunny afternoon. A tranquil Christmas eve with dry weather and light winds, then seasonably chilly and dry overnight.

There will be intervals of clouds and sunshine and an increasing southwesterly breeze Christmas Day as another upper level system approaches in the quick flow. This disturbance, which is pretty dynamic, will move through tomorrow night with some clouds, but any snow shower will most like remain farther north up into New England and our active winds will turn from southwest to west-northwest tomorrow night and continue pretty gusty Monday, at least during the morning, as low pressure develops well east over the Atlantic and high pressure returns, this time from the west. The center of this high will pass by to our south Monday night, but will promote plenty of sunshine Monday midday and afternoon.

Meanwhile, the next storm system will be taking shape Sunday night and Monday down near the western Gulf Coast in response to the upper level energy now spinning out near west Texas. This low pressure area will track northeastward and bring us a pretty good slug of rain Tuesday, then double barreled high pressure with one center to the north and once center to the south will drift eastward and promote dry weather and some sunshine Wednesday as the storm center moves up into the Canadian Maritimes. This area of high pressure will slide to the east, but still promote dry weather Thursday, in advance of a weak system or systems slated to come through later next week and weekend.
