BLOG: Thanksgiving Forecast

Dry weather has settled into the Northeast for this busy travel day, but there is another storm on the way.

Yesterday's cold front has come and gone, and has taken the mild air with it. We are down 15-20 degrees at noon today from this hour yesterday. But believe it or not, this is closer to average - which is currently 53 degrees. There are some ups and downs in the temperatures through the weekend, but they will all be close to or below average.

Expect a lot of sunshine today with high pressure in control. However, that high pressure will quickly give way tonight as the next storm moves this way. Clouds will take over tonight, then the precipitation will arrive late tonight/early tomorrow. That broad word precipitation is being used because this storm is coming into some cold air. Now, in most of Maryland, we will be at or above freezing when the storm arrives - so it will be in the form of rain. But just off to the north in Pennsylvania (and maybe briefly in western Maryland), this storm will start as some sleet. Then, the warm front responsible for this precipitation will lift off to the north and put us in the warm air - meaning that everything will turn over to rain.

Spotty rain and drizzle will fall through Thanksgiving day. The rain will pick up Thursday night into the first half of Friday before this storm gets out of here. When it does, the winds will pick up out of the northwest, dry us out, and cool us down again. Highs on Saturday will only be in the 40s. The chilly air will hang around through the weekend, but warmer air will return early next week.
