BLOG: Storm Underway
2:20 p.m.
So close, but yet so far...
While we didn't think that Baltimore and the metro area would get a lot out of this storm, it looks like they will get even less. Meanwhile, this is a raging snowstorm on the Eastern Shore. Heavy snow has been coming down for hours and is really piling up. By 11 AM today, the Ocean City police captain was already reporting around 6" of snow on the ground with heavy snow coming down.
The center of the storm is strengthening offshore. It is still to the southesat of us, but has passed Hatteras now. This storm is throwing a lot of snow back into eastern Maryland, New Jersey, and even eastern PA. However, the entire slug of moisture is essentially hitting a wall at I-95. We are keeping Cecil County in the 6-12" area, but it's incredible how quickly the snowfall drops just west of that. It goes from six inches to hardly anything in the distance of a county or two. We did know that the amounts would drop off quickly, but wow!
We are revising snowfall amounts and will update the webcast shortly with them. We are keeping the 6-12" inch zone---that includes the Eastern Shore and Cecil County---but probably trace-3" elsewhere...maybe up to 4 inches along the western coastlines.
