BLOG: Messy Weather Ahead

The storms continue to roll our way, and two more are on the way.

One front passed by overnight.  After the winds turned around to the west today, cooler air started seeping back into Maryland.  We did actually hit a high of 40 degrees, but that happened at midnight and temperatures have been falling since.  Temperatures are going down into the teens tonight before we only recover to near 30 degrees tomorrow.  This cold air will set the stage for the next storm moving in.

Clouds will take over tomorrow, then the first storm will arrive tomorrow night.  This storm will have a lot of moisture with it, but take a different track than some recent storms - to the point that it will draw warmer air all the way up through Maryland with it.  And by warmer air, I mean air that is above freezing and will change any precipitation over to rain.  However, that changeover is a process.  So initially we could get some snow showers to break out as early as tomorrow evening.  But when the real moisture arrives tomorrow night, we could go through a few hour period of changing to sleet and freezing rain before the entire storm changes over to rain eventually on Tuesday.  It will change over to rain because our temperature is going up to near 40 degrees.  When we do get up to near 40, we will stay close to that through Tuesday night.  Also, on and off rain will continue to fall into Tuesday night.

At the same time, there is a second storm that will be sitting up over the Midwest while the first one moves through.  After the first one leaves, the second will be allowed to swing through the Mid-Atlantic.  It won't have as much moisture, but will bring in a rush of colder air.  Expect scattered snow showers as that colder air is coming in on Wednesday.  Any snow showers will come to an end, but the cold air will continue to take over for the second half of the week.  Highs will be back down to near 30 degrees by Friday.

We will be watching for another storm to come up from the south over the weekend.

We could encounter a couple hours of messy weather overnight Monday.  We will keep you updated, so stay tuned...
