BLOG: Happy New Year
After a mild start to the new year, the cold cometh in the wake of a sharp cold front slated to move through the area Sunday evening. With the frontal passage will come a few showers, but with the surface low tracking through central Quebec and the front progressing quickly we're looking at a 3-6 hour window for generally light precipitation. The cold air will be delayed such that Monday will not be all that bad, though it will still be noticeably cooler than previous days, especially so with the wind kicking up.
The brutal cold (well, brutal for this season anyhow) will blast in Monday night with Tuesday likely to be the coldest day of the winter thus far... expected temperatures to end up just shy of freezing. Add in a biting wind and real feel temperatures will easily be in the single digits! The deep trough that will move into the Northeast Monday and Tuesday will lift off to the northeast on Wednesday, but with a trailing shortwave trough moving in expect little in the way of temp recovery -- though with less wind it will not feel quite as bitter.
Improving conditions for Thursday as heights rise and warm advection commences. Temperatures will moderate on Thursday and even more so on Friday as an Alberta Clipper moves across the Great Lakes and into southern Ontario. Warm advection strengthening ahead and south of this feature will help to push highs back well into the 40s. Could it be in the 50s next weekend? We shall see...
Have a great day!
