BLOG: Colder Weather Ahead

A weak front is passing by Maryland today.  There is not much moisture with this front, but enough for spotty sprinkles and flurries.  Anything that is falling will come to an end overnight as the front keeps on moving out to sea.  Clouds will mix with sunshine behind this front tomorrow.  Although we did warm up to the average high of 41 degrees this afternoon, a new round of cold air is on the way.  Highs will only make it to the 30s tomorrow, then struggle to reach 30 on Monday.  At the same time, a new storm will already be moving this way again.

The next storm will be a bigger one with more moisture.  However, it's going to take a different track than the last few storms.  The last few cut south of us and then moved up the coast, leaving us in the pool of cold air for the duration.  That meant that we were mainly talking snow with those storms.  However, this one is going to cut up through the Appalachians to the west of us.  It means that we will be on the warmer eastern side of this storm, where enough "warmer" air will be drawn in for the storm to change to rain all the way back into central Maryland.  However, the cold air will hang on at the beginning of this storm for a possible icy mix Monday night before that change over to rain happens Tuesday.  We will closely watch the details of this one and keep you updated.

When the storm gets out of here on Thursday, it will draw in a new round of cold air for the end of the week.
