BLOG: Another Day, Another Round Of Thunderstorms
The stormy weather pattern continues, and will for most of the week. The storm track is still lined from the Plains up into New England. That track will usher a few different storms along this path. Not only will this path bring varying rounds of showers and thunderstorms through Maryland, there could be rounds of severe thunderstorms with the very warm and muggy air sitting over us.
One storm is tracking along that path right now. That's why we had some showers this morning and scattered thunderstorms this afternoon. A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for southern Maryland through 8 p.m., while a few severe thunderstorm warnings are popping up around the Baltimore metro area this afternoon. Any one of these thunderstorms could produce damaging winds, hail, and a lot of rain. The strong thunderstorms will die down overnight but a few showers could linger through the overnight. This whole storm system will lift off to the northeast early tomorrow, just as a new one follows.
Now there is the chance for a shower or thunderstorm tomorrow, but the chance is lower for tomorrow than most of the week. That's because we will get a small break in the action before the next storm system comes in. A warm front from the next storm will move into Maryland Wednesday night and not clear us until later Thursday morning. Clouds and spotty rain or showers will accompany this warm front. When the front does clear us Thursday afternoon, we willl jump right back into the upper 80s with high humidity/dewpoints. There could be some thunderstorms late Thursday from the approaching cold front part of this storm.
This center of this storm system will still be pivoting off to our west on Friday, pumping up heat ahead of it and possibly causing some late-day thunderstorms. That whole storm system lifts off to the northeast on Saturday. However, a trailing front could be enough for scattered late-day thunderstorms again on Saturday. Then yet another storm will come through along that same track on Sunday. This will also cause scattered showers and thunderstorms.
The warm and muggy weather will continue right into the holiday weekend. And although there will be varying chances for showers or thunderstorms, these are not all day, everyday.
We were down at Camden Yards this afternoon, doing a run through for our 4th annual Weather Field Trip Day this Thursday. For all of you coming to join us, the program is looking great with a few new additions from last year. We are excited to see you down there Thursday!
