Best Sketching Classes In The Baltimore Area

Are you looking for a way to bring out that budding artist within? Baltimore has several places where you can learn the fine art of sketching. This college, located in Baltimore County, has several programs in the fine arts and offers classes in drawing. Whether you are a beginner or expert, there is something to suit your interest. There are several classes available. According to the catalogue, participants can "learn drawing and drawing techniques. Topics to be covered include set up procedures, drawing techniques, lighting and rendering techniques, and design and layout methods. Students can develop an understanding of line, shape contour, value, composition, perspective, spatial relationships, measuring and proportion, light and shadow while working from still-life set-ups." Affordable classes are available in landscaping and caricature drawing.

Celebrating 50 years of art service, the Mitchell School of Fine Arts has been at its current location for 15 years. The owner, Trevor Twist, stated that in addition to teaching adults, the school also teaches youth, beginning as early as five years of age. The focus for the school is teaching fundamentals and principles of drawing as well as painting. There is also an after-school program for youth. Classes include Introduction to Drawing, Animal Pastel, Drawing and Painting, and Drawing, Pastel and Painting.

According to its website, the center, located near Baltimore, offers drop-in portrait drawing classes for ages 18 to adult. There are also drawing and composition classes available. Find a class that works for you and get creative!

The Baltimore School for the Arts, a citywide high school located in the downtown area of Baltimore City, has courses in various areas of the performing and visual arts. The school offers a college preparatory course of study with an emphasis upon rigorous training in the arts. Students are required to audition for admittance to the school. The Baltimore School for the Arts also offers specialized programs for middle school students who are interested in attending. One area of the visual arts includes drawing, in addition to other media.

This school is located not far from Baltimore's Cultural Center District. It features various art classes, including drawing, for college students and those interested in continuing education. The school is unique because it is expanding and will be able to offer more to its clientele. The Maryland Institute College of Art is easily accessible by public transportation. MICA also has a supply store that caters to the unique needs of its students. According to the website, "Students in MICA's in-depth major in drawing gain technical proficiency in the basic elements of drawing along with the skill to convincingly express a personal vision. Through observing the visual properties of forms and the spaces they occupy and interdisciplinary study with painting and general fine arts majors, drawing students experiment with media, master the compositional form and develop intellectual connections between their artwork and contemporary art and culture."
