Arts Endowment Awards Research Grants For First Time
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The National Endowment for the Arts is awarding grants to researchers for the first time to investigate the impact of the arts on different parts of society.
The first 15 grants were announced Wednesday, totaling $250,000.
The awards range from $10,000 to $30,000 each.
The projects explore three different areas. They are the impact of the arts on economic development, the health of arts
organizations, and the links between arts engagement and social outcomes, learning or behavior.
In the Washington area, researchers at the University of Maryland at College Park will study the achievement of adolescents who study the arts compared with those who don't. The National Dance Education Organization will study the impact of dance.
Grants were also awarded to Brown, Fordham and Harvard universities, among others.
