Pierre Foster Charged In Deadly Shooting Of Baltimore Sanitation Worker Dayvon Mason
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Pierre Foster, 28, was arrested Tuesday and charged with first-degree murder for allegedly shooting and killing Dayvon Mason, a city sanitation worker, Friday on York Road, police said.
Mason, 32, and a coworker were sitting in their truck at about 7:30 p.m. in the 4600 block of York Road when a man approached the truck and, after an argument, opened fire, police said. The other man is recovering at home from his injuries.
They were responsible for clearing corner trash cans. Officials said the men were outside of their assigned area at the time of the shooting.
"I want to thank our detectives that have been working diligently on this case as they helped bring a sense of closure to the victims' family, friends, coworkers," Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said. "Our hearts and prayers are not only with the victims and their families but also friends and their coworkers as well."
Mayor Brandon Scott said workers in public service like Mason and his coworker should not have to fear for their safety.
"My heart goes out to the family of Dayvon Mason, who lost his life in this senseless attack," he said. "It's unacceptable for public service to have to worry about their safety while dedicating their lives to advancing our community, especially while on duty."
The Department of Public Works is grieving the loss.
"I was with the men and women at the yard where Dayvon worked, and it's visible that this has left a hole. This is something that's going to take a while for them to grieve," said Matthew Garbark of the department.
As detectives work to determine if this was a targeted attack, officials are asking for the public's help to cut down on violent crime in the city.
"Every life lost to senseless violence is a grim reminder of the impact that these heartbreaking tragedies have on our families and communities of Baltimore," Harrison said.
Scott said those who kill in the city will be apprehended.
"We're going to hold people accountable," he said. "We're not going to stop looking for you when you're shooting and murdering people on our streets."
