Annual Chincoteague Pony Swim Canceled Again This July
CHINCOTEAGUE ISLAND, MD. (WJZ) — For the second year in a row, the annual Chincoteague Island pony swim will not be held because of the pandemic.
The restrictions on gatherings forced organizers to cancel the event scheduled for July.
Chincoteague and Assateague Island are known for their wild horses.
Each year, the pony swim between the two islands is used to raise money for the local fire department. Foals are auctioned off to keep the herd from over expanding.
