2 Dead After Fells Point Car Crash

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A tragic car accident in Fells Point cut two young lives short.

Andrea Fujii explains what police think happened.

It was Thursday night when two vehicles crashed in the intersection of Broadway and Bank Streets in Fells Point. Days later, remnants of the deadly accident are still on the street.

Police say Julian Benson, the driver of a Dodge Durango, died when he collided with a Mitsubishi Eclipse, killing its passenger, 18-year-old Zoey Crumpton.

"They're currently investigating and preliminarily, it looks like speed may be a factor," said City Police Detective Jeremy Silbert.

In total, four people were involved in the crash. The other two were taken to Johns Hopkins with non-life threatening injuries.

Crumpton was a freshman nursing student at Stevenson University after just graduating from Baltimore's Bryn Mawr. Benson was from New Jersey and had interned with the Maryland Transit Administration while attending Morgan State.

"Julian was a breath of fresh air---incredibly vibrant, energetic, very creative, very adventurous. He was a wonderful young man," said Jawauna Greene with the MTA.

Police continue to investigate, trying to find answers as to why two promising young people were taken in an instant.

Baltimore Police released the results of their preliminary investigation. Witnesses told them that Benson went through a red light while speeding.
