106-Year-Old Woman Meets President & Mrs. Obama

WASHINGTON (WJZ) -- Virginia McLaurin wanted, more than anything, to meet the president. She wrote to him, even offering to go to his house if it would make it easier. At 106 years old, her dream came true.

Mary Bubala has more.

You've probably seen the video of McLaurin dancing with President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle.

OBAMA: How are you?
McLAURIN: I'm fine!
OBAMA: Oh, it's so nice to see you!
McLAURIN: It's an honor; it's an honor.
OBAMA: You want to say hi to Michelle?
McLAURIN: YES!
OBAMA: Slow down now; don't go too quick.
OBAMA: She's 106!
MRS. OBAMA: No, you are not!

But she is. And Virginia McLaurin was so excited to meet the president and first lady that she started dancing---and so did they.

"So what's the secret to still dancing at 106?" he asked her.

Well, for one thing, she still volunteers 40 hours a week at a nearby school as a foster grandparent.

And meeting the president filled her with joy.

"I felt good all in my soul. It was the greatest time of my life," she said.

And what a life it's been, watching as the world changed around her.

"We have come a long way, you know that?" she said. "I did not think it would ever be a black president."

So what was the best part of meeting the Obamas?

"I felt like I made it. I made it and I feel like I can die happy," she said.

McLaurin turns 107 next month.
