Small magnitude 2.1 earthquake recorded near Trion in northwest Georgia

A small earthquake was recorded early Monday near Trion in northwest Georgia, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The magnitude 2.1 earthquake happened at 2:34 a.m., about six-tenths of a mile northwest of Trion.

The USGS measured the earthquake at a depth of about 6.6 miles. Its center was recorded at 34.551 degrees north latitude and 85.319 degrees west longitude.

Data from 16 monitoring stations and 27 recorded seismic phases were used to measure the event.

The USGS report did not include information about whether the earthquake caused damage.
