Winters Chapel water main construction postponed to reduce disruptions for drivers and businesses
A planned water main replacement project in the Winters Chapel area will no longer move forward on its original schedule.
DeKalb County has combined the project with upcoming roadwork planned for the same area, according to Reginald Wells, director of the county's Department of Watershed Management.
The decision was made with the city of Dunwoody and the Georgia Department of Transportation to prevent residents and businesses from facing separate construction projects at different times, Wells said.
The original project called for replacing about 3,100 feet of aging water pipes along Winters Chapel Road, Sumac Drive, Charmant Place, Jones Mill Road, Peeler Road, Sanlee Lane and Ridgelock Court.
DeKalb County had previously said the work would begin Aug. 10 and continue through November. A new construction schedule was not announced.
The city of Dunwoody will release more information about the larger road project later.
