Clayton County police launch search for missing six-year-old John Ross III

Today, Sun., Aug. 9, the search continues for six-year-old John Ross III, who was reported missing in Clayton County on Saturday evening.

Law enforcement officers, specialized units, and personnel from multiple agencies have returned to the area today, August 9, to expand their efforts in locating the child.

John was last seen on August 8 around 7:43 p.m. in the 6000 block of Riverdale Road in Atlanta. According to police, John is 4 feet 2 inches tall, weighs about 50 pounds, and was last seen wearing blue shorts, without a shirt or shoes.

He has a developmental disability and is nonverbal, making him especially vulnerable.

Authorities are urging residents and workers in the 6000 block of Riverdale Road and surrounding neighborhoods to thoroughly check their properties.

Community members are asked to inspect yards, porches, garages, sheds, carports, decks, and any other areas where a child might hide or seek shelter.

Police also recommend checking behind bushes, fences, outdoor furniture, and vehicles, as well as reviewing any doorbell or security camera footage from the evening of August 8 through August 9.

Officials stress the importance of not assuming a property has already been checked, noting that even a small detail could be crucial in bringing John home safely.

Anyone who has information about John's whereabouts, has seen him, or notices anything unusual is urged to call 911 immediately. If John is located, authorities ask that his location and any other relevant information be provided to 911 or the Clayton County Police at 770-477-3747.
