40 years ago today, publishing heiress Patty Hearst was kidnapped by the Symbionese Liberation Army, and held for ransom. Two months after her kidnapping she aided the S.L.A. in a bank robbery, causing many to wonder if she was suffering from Stockholm Syndrome. She spent two years in prison, until eventually having her sentence commuted by President Carter.
