Rain Causes Unexpected Flooding In Bedford

BEDFORD (CBSDFW.COM) - North Texas saw between two and four inches of rain Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, and those showers brought flooding to parts of the DFW. Such treacherous conditions can be expected in low-lying areas or locations near the water, but one flooding situation has stumped officials.

Central Drive in Bedford experienced some serious flooding Wednesday morning, at the intersection of Highway 183. Traffic along the highway was not impacted, but those traveling underneath the highway and along the access road were faced with ponding.

This area is currently under construction as part of the North Tarrant Expressway project. Several lanes of traffic were already closed because of the road work being done in the area. But construction crews at the scene did not know what could have caused the flooding.

According to workers, water management plans and drains in the area seemed to be flowing and functioning properly. There was some speculation that, perhaps, the drain pipes under the ground were clogged, and this created the water backup on the road.

Whatever the cause, drivers in Bedford are advised to be especially cautious when traveling through this intersection.
