DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - MegaFest kicked off with a bang in Dallas on Thursday. And while Bishop T.D. Jakes welcomed massive crowds of people from around the globe to the three-day event, he rolled out the red carpet for Oprah Winfrey. The media mogul greeted thousands of attendees at her signature Lifeclass.

Winfrey and Jakes discussed a sobering statistic. One out of every three children are raised without fathers. "We're talking about filling that void," said Jakes. "Begins with relationship, intimacy, giving back."

The Lifeclass even continued on the red carpet, where CBS 11 News anchor Adrienne Bankert got to speak with Oprah. "You've got to meet people and love them at the level where they are," Oprah said, "and not this sort of idea that you have about what you want your mother to be, your sister to be, your father to be."

The Queen of Talk explained that she has mastered the art of being an open book. "I just opened myself up in front of that audience," said Oprah. "Bishop saw I was going, that's why he kept talking. He saw I was getting ready to go into the ugly cry."

"My best friend, Gayle, said to me one time, 'You crying too much. Every day I turn on the TV, you crying,'" added Oprah about opening up to the world. "My ability to be vulnerable is what put me in this space."

"I would say that the biggest lesson I've learned over the years," Oprah said, "is to connect to what is real for me, and to let that shine."

While in Dallas, Oprah said that she wants to do two things that the Big D is famous for -- a lot of eating and a lot of shopping. "You do it big down here in Dallas," she said.
