Nolan Staying With Rangers, For Now

SURPRISE, Ariz. (CBSDFW.COM) - It's come down to press releases saying "Nothing is wrong, we're getting along just great and focusing on the team."

Typically, that signals the end of the relationship, but we're cynical and hope to be wrong.

On Sunday afternoon after the Rangers won both split-squad 'count 'em all' Cactus League games, the team issued a press release that said as much.  In it's entirety it read:

Texas Rangers Chief Executive Officer Nolan Ryan issued the following statement today:

"Over the last week, Ray Davis, Bob Simpson, and I have been in discussion and met in-person. The conversations have been productive, and we have discussed my role as CEO of the organization. We agreed these discussions will continue as we go forward.

I am very proud of what the Rangers have accomplished over the last several years, and I believe our preparations for upcoming season are what is important."

Again, because we're the cynical types around here, the first thing we went to was "Hey, they didn't mention Jon Daniels ANYWHERE in that press release."

Simple oversight, probably not.  There are lines to be read between these lines, much like there were with Josh Hamillton's "We'll talk after Spring Training" discussions last year.

Nolan isn't saying he'll be here through the end of his contract.  He isn't even saying he'll be here through April, much less October.

But what he is saying is what your dad used to tell you when he was tired of you asking the same question over and over again.  "We're not going to talk about it until we get home, and that's final."

Three more weeks and we'll see.
