Former Cowboys WR Austin Agrees To Terms With Browns
CLEVELAND (CBSDFW.COM) -- The Cleveland Browns have agreed to terms with former Cowboys wide receiver Miles Austin, the team announced on Thursday.
The Cowboys released Austin in March, designating him as a June 1 cut. By doing so, Dallas saved roughly $5.5 million in salary cap space for 2014.
The 30-year-old was plagued by injuries last season, starting only eight times and missing five game due to recurring hamstring problems. Austin had his worst statistical season since 2008, catching just 24 passes for 244 yards.
Austin enjoyed a breakout season in 2009, a season in which he earned the first of two Pro Bowl selections. He had 81 receptions for 1,320 yards and 11 touchdowns in his breakout campaign, including a franchise record 250 yards receiving in his first start.
He promptly signed a six-year, $54 million contract extension.
In eight seasons with the team, Austin reeled in 301 passes for 4,481 yards and 34 touchdowns.
The Monmouth graduate joined Dallas as an undrafted free agent in 2006.
Austin joins a Browns offense that added former Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel in the NFL Draft.
