VALLEY RANCH (CBSDFW.COM) - It was cleaning day at Valley Ranch, and after back-to-back failed seasons, perhaps the Dallas Cowboys should be cleaning out more than their lockers. "They're just an average football team. That's not the Cowboys I grew up with," recalled long-time fan, Jayton Jenkins.

What happened to America's Team? After failing to make the playoffs again, the silver and blue have developed one heck of a black eye. "We have certain expectations of our team," said Bill Wisinski. "We haven't lived up to them," added the Cowboys' season ticket holder."

It's often referred to as "good old days" syndrome; when fans yearn for the days of Staubach, Landry, Aikman and Emmitt. But with repeat appearances by the Texas Rangers in the World Series and an NBA title for the Mavericks, today's generation may not care about the good old days.

In fact, some argue that the Mavericks and Rangers have done the impossible; they've trumped the Cowboys. "I heard that there was a poll taken with kids," explained Cowboys' fan, Kevin Davis. "They asked who was their favorite team and it's now the Rangers."

The Cowboys still have the numbers on their side. Their regular season TV ratings in North Texas far surpass that of the Rangers or the Mavericks. "We're still America's Team and everyone relates Dallas with the Cowboys," Wisinski acknowledged.

That may be true with the older generation, but with the success of the Rangers and the Mavericks, there are certainly some new sheriffs in town, and they're not all wearing stars.
