1 person fatally shot by Arlington police Sunday morning

ARLINGTON (CBS News Texas) - One person has died after being shot by police Sunday morning.

It happened at a house in the 2500 block of Fallcreek Street in Arlington. Police received a call from a man who "indicated his desire to commit suicide by cop."

Arlington police set up a perimeter around the house and made phone contact with the man in an attempt to de-escalate the situation. At some point, the man ended phone contact with the officers and began approaching them, carrying a firearm.

The man was instructed by police to put down the weapon, but he did not comply. Multiple officers then fired their service weapons, striking the man.

Life saving measures were performed on the man until paramedics arrived. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died.

Police say there are now two investigations taking place: a criminal investigation that will review the entire incident and an administrative investigation to determine whether department policies were followed. This is standard anytime an officer fires their service weapon.

No officers were injured.
