Wayward Marmot Captured In San Francisco; Bar Holds Fundraiser To Send Back To Yosemite
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A marmot was captured in a San Francisco neighborhood Wednesday.
The elusive yellow-bellied marmot had been spotted Tuesday hiding underneath homes in the city's Potrero Hill neighborhood, and was captured by a specialist with Wildlife Emergency Services.
The marmot will be transported to Wildlife Center of Silicon Valley for a health check before being returned to its home in Yosemite.
The marmot likely made its way to the city in someone's car.
"Nice warm engine, they hop up in there, find a cozy spot and the next morning folks must leave and, uh, they hitch a ride, you know, get out the next evening and they're in San Francisco," trapper Duane Titus said.
The Rock Star Bar in San Francisco was holding a fundraiser Wednesday night selling 'Marmotinis' to help raise gas money for the marmot's trip home.
