When Will Bay Area Temperatures Climb Back Into The 80s?

KPIX 5 Morning Weather Anchor Roberta Gonzales answers the questions you never get to ask on-air.

Q: Inquiring minds want to know: what is with this weather? Where is the sun? How could it be so warm all winter and spring and now May is freezing? It looks like there is no end in sight to this unseasonably cool, gray weather. People have turned their heat back on! - Doug Sovern, KCBS Radio

A: Hahaha! Hi Doug! GREAT question!

The latest satellite photograph pretty much sums it up. We are experiencing a very robust onshore flow, pushing low clouds and patchy fog onshore a good 60 miles.

In addition to the marine layer, high clouds are streaming overhead as a storm system slides into Oregon and Northern California. Below normal temperatures should be expected today through Friday with near average temperatures retuning by this weekend. Meanwhile, breezy westerly winds will blow through the period, adding to the daily chill.

By the way, you are correct, this is a prolonged cool down with inland temperatures not returning to the 80s until May 23! And most notably, looks like rain moves into the Bay Area on Thursday (up to .25) and a chance of rain Friday!

I would love to hear from you! Please send weather questions, observations and photos to me, and I look forward to hearing from you!
