Union City Teacher Accused Of Molesting Girls

UNION CITY (CBS / AP) -- A third-grade teacher at an Alameda County school has been arrested on charges that he molested a number of female pupils.

Union City Police Commander Ben Horner said that 47-year-old Michael William Howry was arrested at his Alameda home on Wednesday and remained jailed on Thursday with his bail set at $1.5 million.

Horner said officers started investigating on April 12 after another teacher at Alvarado Elementary School allegedly saw Howry behaving inappropriately with a student.

From interviews with other girls, investigators identified more alleged victims, although Horner would not say how many.

Howry has worked for the New Haven Unified School District for 15 years. He was placed on administrative leave after the first allegation.
