One of the vehicles ran the red light but that it wasn't yet which driver was at fault, police said.
Police said the pedestrian was struck by the pickup in the crosswalk after the initial collision and was transported to the hospital suffering from critical injuries.
Police said that drugs or alcohol were not a factor but that speed may have played a role.
Five people from the vehicles were transported to the hospital, including the female driver of the BMW who suffered a broken arm and her passengers suffered minor injuries, police said.
Police also said an AC Transit bus may have been in the area at about the time the accident occurred and they hope surveillance cameras aboard will assistance them with the investigation.
