Tech Report: Google Search To Incorporate Your Gmail Data

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)— Google will now incorporate information gathered from your Gmail account into your search results. The tech giant made the announcement Wednesday in a move that is not yet certain to help or hinder the company.

To some extent this is creepy, but you have to look at some of the advantages. For instance, I have an airline confirmation number in my Gmail account. With the new integration they're talking about, I can now go into the search engine and simply type in "my trip". It would then know to look into my Gmail and bring up those results from my mail. That would be in addition to searching the world, so they can now specifically search your own account.

KCBS Tech Report:

Google might know what your interested in, who you talk to, and how to fine tune search results based on your email. Of course this presents some potentially obvious disadvantages.

In a shared computer situation, you may be logged into iGoogle or Gmail and if you forget to log out your private data would then become compromised.
