Tech Report: Facebook Rumored To Work On Smartphone With HTC

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)— Rumors are continuing to grow that social networking giant Facebook is teaming up with HTC to put out its own smartphone.

According to tech blog All Things D, the code name being used for the phone is "Buffy."

"I don't know if it should be called a smartphone, wacky idea phone or even a dumb phone. It could be Buffy the Android slayer I suppose," said KCBS technology analyst Larry Magid.

KCBS' Tech Report:

According to the report, it would be tightly integrated with Facebook making it "a very social phone" Magid said.

He said it might even be better at keeping you in closer touch with your contacts, tying in with location-based services and other Facebook messaging services.

Despite this new development, Magid points out that there's already an app for that, so to speak.

"There is a Facebook app for Android and iPhone. There's even a Facebook messenger app for both platforms. I can't imagine why this would be a compelling buy for people," Magid said referring to Facebook's latest collaboration.

He did add in agreement with All Things D, that if you're nuts about Facebook, that perhaps this latest development could be more efficient in letting users know that best way to reach their contacts.
