State Sen. Yee's Suspension Leaves Fate Of 17 Bills In Doubt
SACRAMENTO (KCBS)— Last week's suspension of State Sen. Leland Yee leaves the fate of 17 bills pending in the Legislature in doubt. His suspension came after he was charged with gun trafficking and political corruption, but his staff has returned to work under the supervision of the Senate Rules Committee.
"Senator Yee's capitol office and his two district offices have now reopened and staff is in place and they will continue to work on constituent concerns," said Mark Hedlund, speaking on behalf of Senate President pro Tem, Darrel Steinberg.
Those constituents, residents of District 8, have a committee in place during Yee's legal troubles, but Hedlund said whether or not Yee's bills will remain alive is another question.

"Unless another senator desires or makes a request to pick up one of Senator Yee's pending bills, his pending legislation will not be moving," he said.
At the time of Yee's was arrest, his 17 bills moving through the legislature dealt with fixed magazines for assault weapons, human trafficking of minors, solitary confinement of juveniles in custody, mental health in schools, and taking prior abuse into account when juveniles are convicted of crimes.
In order to keep these bills alive, they would have to be picked up by another senator and approved by the Senate Rules Committee.
At Senator Yee's San Francisco offices, the sign bearing his name was removed Wednesday.
The office will be known as State Senate District 8 while Yee remains suspended.
